We have probably all grown up to believe that wearing black makes you slimmer and so if you are curvy you should wear black all the time to look slimmer.
This is the biggest myth and quite disparaging advice because firstly, colour cannot physically change your shape or size.
Secondly, why will you not want to look like yourself?
Although black is a solid dark colour, well so is navy blue, so is brown and so on.
There are many dark colours, but you never hear that brown will make you look slimmer so why do we hear this about black?
Black is subtle, low key and dull and "I want to be heard and not seen" type of colour.
I have personally felt victim of this myth and for a very long time I wore black a lot and looking back I can see how limiting my style was.
Quite ironic because I always wanted to stand out and look unique, but wearing black just made me blend in the crowd and prevented me from experimenting with colour and more styles.
Don't get me wrong, black can be a staple and very easy to throw on, but it is better to pair it with colour so for example if you wear black trousers, then pair it with a bright, colourful top.
If you wear a black dress then you can accessorise with colour such as a red belt, red shoes or even a white blazer or jacket .
Colour not only lifts your mood, but certainly makes you stand out and feel more body confident.
So next time you go shopping, pick out the colourful piece rather than black unless of course you need it for a formal occasion like a funeral.
Embrace your curves and you are amazing just as you are whatever colour you choose.
